Post a Class Announcement or an Alert

You can communicate class news to students and parents by posting class announcements and alerts on the Class page. Announcements are better suited for non-emergencies, such as field trips or class presentations, while alerts are often used for emergencies, such as class cancellations. You can post an announcement or alert from the Overview tab or the Announcements tab.

Post an Announcement or Alert from the Overview Tab

To post an announcement or alert from the Overview tab, follow these steps:

  1. On the Home page, click the class you want to add the posting to.

  2. On the Overview tab, scroll down to the Class Announcements and Alerts panel.

  3. Click Add New.

    The New Announcement Or Alert dialog box opens.

  4. Click Announcement or Alert, depending on the type of posting you want to add.
  5. Type a Title and a Description for the posting.
  6. Next to Start Date and End Date, type the first and last day the posting is visible to students and parents, or click the Calendar icon to select the days.
  7. Next to Visible To, select Parents and/or Students to allow parents and/or students to view the posting.
  8. In Section, select the appropriate check boxes to apply the posting to sections of the class, making the posting visible to the parents and/or students of those sections.
  9. Optionally, you can choose to do any of the following:
    • Attach a file to the posting from the Attachments: Attach File From drop-down list
    • Add a link to the posting by typing a title in Link Text and typing the URL (beginning with http://) in Link URL
    • Send an email to students and/or parents by selecting Send E-Mail Notification
  10. Click Publish to post the announcement or alert to the Class page.
  11. If you selected Send E-Mail Notification, select the recipients of the email, compose and format the text of the email, and click Send.

You can filter results by clicking the Filter icon, or change the order of items displayed in a column by clicking the column heading.

Post an Announcement or Alert from the Announcements Tab

To post an announcement or alert from the Announcements tab, follow these steps:

  1. On the Home page, click the class you want to add the posting to.

  2. On the Section menu, click the Announcements tab.
  3. For more information, see Section Menu. If you don't see the Announcements tab, your PlusPortals administrator has disabled the feature.

  4. Click Add New from either the Class Announcements panel or Class Alerts panel, depending on the type of posting you want to add.

  5. Type a Title and Description for the posting.
  6. Next to Start Date and End Date, type the first and last day the posting is visible to students and parents, or click the Calendar icon to select the days
  7. Next to Visible To, select Parents and/or Students to allow parents and/or students to view the posting.
  8. In Section, select the check boxes for the sections of the class you want to apply the posting to.
  9. Optionally, you can choose to do any of the following:
    • Attach a file to the posting from the Attachments: Attach File From drop-down list
    • Add a link to the posting by typing a title in Link Text and typing the URL (beginning with http://) in Link URL
    • Send an email to students and/or parents by selecting Send E-Mail Notification
  10. Click Publish to post the announcement or alert to the Class page.

If you selected Send E-Mail Notification, select the recipients of the email, compose and format the text of the email, and click Send.

You can filter results by clicking the Filter icon, change the order items of displayed in the column by clicking the column heading, or customize the number of items displayed on the page by clicking an option in the Announcements Per Page or Alerts per page drop-down list. Use the arrows to navigate between pages.
